Very rare, and unusual VOX guitar used by the Beatles will be auctioned by Julien’s Auctions in NYC on May 18th at the Hard Rock Cafe at 10am. It is on display in London from May 9th to 11th. This guitar was previously sold for $178,000 in 2004. It was played by John Lennon and George Harrison. It is expected to fetch between $200k and $300k
Clearly, the value here is in the association with the Beatles less then the pedigree of the instrument. Very few people would have any understanding of how this thing sounds, but the fact it didn’t become a staple in the Beatles’ palette of instruments may be an indication of its playability. It sort of has that “bare knuckles handle bar carnival barker” look to it. Not sure what to do with that, exactly.
