Bon Jovi has been rocking a long while and I think we can all agree they have been a massive success – even if you aren’t into their music. I grew up with it and their music is from “my generation” so I can dig it (was that mixing generation right there?).
This video shows off Richie Sambora’s traveling guitar room, and the 20 vintage guitars he takes on tour with him. Pretty cool inside look. The interesting guitar part starts at 2:38 in the video. The production guy in charge of his guitars tells us there are guitars in the collection that are $100k to $150k. Probably means some late 50s Les Pauls. The fact Richie is PLAYING those guitars on stage is respectable. He certainly can afford it, but that’s besides the point. Those guitars are happy, happy, happy to be doing their job…and their quality makes their music better.
I like what Richie says in this video interview with Billboard magazine:
“When I walk out on stage I try to take a blue sman mentality. A blues man mentality, it’s like, sometimes you don’t know what…sometimes they’ll give you a guitar and amplifier that’s not even yours and you go play and that’s the way you’re going to eat next. Me…I’ve got 22 trucks full of my stuff…lights and sound and my amplifiers and vintage guitars and if I can’t make that happen, I ain’t no good”
