I am introducing a new competition. It’s called AMP vs. LAMP. You’ve never played you say? I will tell you how.
But first…let’s talk about the lamp since it will be the cornerstone and the “gold standard” artifact for our contest.
This lamp was given to me by my good friend, Andy, after I helped him move his Dad out of his apartment. There were many vintage items and we brought most of the other vintage furniture to Goodwill. But, he gave this lamp to me in exchange for helping him remove Pennsylvania’s longest couch out the apartment. The couch was so long we barely were able to extract it from the room, into the hallway and onto the freight elevator. The alternative was throwing that couch off the 11th floor. We almost resorted to that extreme juvenile pleasure; and like every boy the thought of it sailing through the air and smashing onto the lawn below had us captivated. We even had the couch up on the rail of the balcony…but we decided at the last moment we were better than that.
I learned from Andy’s Dad, Eli, that the lamp was purchased in 1967. You would agree I am sure it’s quite stately in stature and is a fitting compliment in my studio.
Each “episode” will pit a vintage AMP against this vintage LAMP and you will determine which is more vintage – the AMP or the LAMP! I will provide three photos of the AMP – front, back and control panel. You will determine which is older – the AMP or the LAMP. The first episode will be this weekend.
Are there prizes? Nope. Bragging rights for sure and maybe I will come up with something at the guitar show…
Stay tuned and get ready for AMP vs. LAMP!
